Private Practice, licensed in Alabama. Mr. Denton received a B.A. in
Psychology from Samford University in 1994, before earning his M.Ed. in Community/Agency Counseling from The University of Montevallo in 1998.
Following graduation, Mr. Denton worked with children and adolescents in local in-home counseling agencies until his licensure in 2002. Upon licensure he began practicing at Alabama Psychiatric Services for 11 years, expanding his expertise from child/adolescent to adults, group and couples counseling. During his employment with APS, he ran a Partial Hospitalization Program for teens for five years, and later provided clinical coverage for offices around the state. In 2013, Mr. Denton started his private practice as a generalist, but specialized in assisting families of children with special needs obtain and improve school IEP services.
Services Offered
Mr. Denton is available for individual, couple, and family therapy for patients school-aged and older, and physician and school consultation. He has a broad range of interests clinically, and primarily works with anxiety, depression, developmental, and adjustment issues. Joining Ackerson and Associates, he is developing his clinical skill assisting with post-concussion cases. Mr. Denton last year became an Alabama certified gambling addiction counselor with interest in application to many compulsive behavior issues such as video game/internet/social media addiction.
